The new film will be an all-female spin-off from the Steven Soderbergh-directed Ocean's trilogy, which starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are thought to be leading the cast for the new film, which will be co-written and directed by The Hunger Games' Gary Ross.

Rihanna is thought to be among several new additions to the cast of the film, as Deadline reports. The singer will star alongside Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling and Asian-American rapper and actress Nora Lum, who goes by the moniker Awkwafina.

While the cast list is still to be officially confirmed - indeed, only seven of the eight principal cast members have been named - Warner Bros. have said that filming for Ocean's Eight will begin in October.
