"Kids should not be allowed to be like Miley Cyrus, roam around like that," the Boyzone star and actor tells Hot Press.
Now starring in the romantic comedy Goddess, Ronan Keating opens up about his new screen career, losing his squeaky-clean image and protecting his children from the industry in the new issue of Hot Press.
Keating's daughter, Missy, is venturing into showbusiness: just 13 she has demonstrated her acting chops in both Dark Touch and The Sea. Though incredibly proud, Keating will be keeping a close eye as she makes her way in the industry.
“Kids have to find their own way, but of course I’ll be her Dad and guide her and protect her," the Boyzone singer says.
Speaking about the influence of risqué pop performers like Miley Cyrus, he says: "Kids should not be allowed to be like Miley Cyrus, roam around like that. They need guidance. At twenty-one, you think you know everything. You don’t know your arse from your elbow. We were famous in a different time: it was all much more innocent. We still managed to do stupid things. Now, it’s so different – more exploitative and exposed. I rarely agree with Sinead O’Connor. That open letter she wrote was on the money. She wrote it as a mother, that’s why. But Missy’s a smart kid, she sees that and knows how wrong that is. We’re safe with Missy.”
Elsewhere in the piece, he talks about how losing Stephen Gately brought Boyzone closer together and how he's not abandoning music for acting, with a new solo record and Boyzone album in the pipeline.
