We've the full list of those honoured on a night when there were four gongs for the English singer.
The 57th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by LL Cool J, were held in LA's Staples Center last night as the American music industry honoured a year in sound. It was, however, also a story of British performers battling it out, as Sam Smith went head-to-head with Ed Sheeran in a number of categories.
Smith hasn't had a huge number of reasons to smile of late – he has been forced to share a co-write with Tom Petty after the musical similarities between 'Stay With Me' and Petty's 'I Won't Back Down' came to light and was called "fat" and "ugly" by radio legend Howard Stern (though Stern says he was simply making an awkward attempt at congratulating Smith on getting so far in the industry).
There were plenty of reasons for Smith to smile last night, however – he was named Best New Artist, his debut In The Lonely Hour scooped Best Pop Vocal Album and 'Stay With Me (Darkchild Version)' was named Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
It meant Ed Sheeran let empty-handed.
Other big winners included Beyoncé, Pharrell and Roseanne Cash, who went home with three awards each, and Beck, who won two, including the award for Best Album. Here's the full list:
