Samantha Mumba's comeback song arrives right in time for summer.
Samantha Mumba has released her new single 'The Lie' after a brief hiatus from music.
The Irish singer was part of the wave of R&B/pop princesses whose songs dominated the radio and videos were all over TRL at the turn of the century. At this point, she had released her first and only album Gotta Tell You in 2000, but a follow up never arrived.
Since then however, Mumba has been occupied with family life. Between getting married and having her first child, she has only dropped a sprinkling of singles in the 23 years since.
She re-emerged during the pandemic with back-to-back tracks 'COOL' and 'The Process' toward the end of 2020, only to disappear from our playlists again. Fingers crossed Mumba is back to stay with her latest, especially given her blistering performance at The George a few weeks ago (Pride really is her month).
'The Lie', co-written by the singer and Avehre, it sees her caught up with a 'sneaky link'. "I’m not yours, and you’re not mine / Laying with him, but I got you on my mind / It’s f**ked up, and it ain’t right / But it’s something neither of us can deny," she sings.

Producer Drew Scott, AKA Druski, supplies Mumba with an upbeat sound bed and a tropical flair. Rhythm guitar, synths and thumping percussion are the perfect accompaniment to her compelling, sleek vocals.
It's still unclear if 'The Lie' is the beginning of a new chapter in Samantha Mumba's already acclaimed career, or if it's just another one off single she’s simply sharing with fans who’ve been by her side for all these years.
