The bold Irish artists join forces as Scally & The Ballyboyz, releasing their second radical single off their forthcoming, genre-bending EP Mass Psychosis.
The dynamic Irish duo Scally & The Ballyboyz are back in the lead-up to their forthcoming EP, this time with the single ‘Germ Free.’ Following their recent release ‘Waiting Room,’ this newest single from the Wexford-Mullingar group continues their 'hard-hitting' social commentary in the form of a fresh, hip-hop meets indie rock n’ roll track.
Scally & The Ballyboyz’ forthcoming EP Mass Psychosis is an anarchistically rebellious force three years in the making. The idea for the record was born after The Ballyboyz became enthralled with their Dad’s ‘80s vinyl collection during lockdown, and thought to invite Scally into their musical world to blend their hip-hop and rock styles together.
Thematically in line with Mass Psychosis, ‘Germ Free’ reflects with cynical humour upon the last three years of Covid chaos.
An unexpected indie guitar hook warns the listener that ‘Germ Free’ is unlike any comparable sonic experience. Scally & The Ballyboyz are bold with their satire, hitting upon contentious issues that no other Irish artists have yet wrestled openly with. The result is a track that makes you think, but also makes you feel good.

"When we chopped up the sample and added drums I knew this track had a vibe straight away, I contacted Scally,” add The Ballyboyz, “because of his punk background and we created a fresh blend of both our styles. We were all hyped when we finished recording the audio for ‘Germ Free’ and filmed the video recently in Wexford. I’m sure everyone knows someone in their life who was affected by the covid madness and hysteria.”
Released along with the single, the music video for ‘Germ Free’ is a playful parody. It aims to cast a light on the fear that gripped so many people during peak Covid times, as it follows the daily life of its main character, the germ free adolescent played by Mikayla Walsh.
‘Germ Free’ was recorded & produced at Bally & Scally HQ and mixed and mastered at Jam Studios, Kells by producer Martin Quinn.
