Scottish Band Take Pride In U2 Covers Album
It'll be a "sort of homecoming" when the band December launch their album of imaginative U2 covers in Dublin later this month.
Although the Scottish band December are still very much writing and recording their own stuff, they were lead into an exploration of U2 songs after penning the song 'Alison Stewart', a homage to the life and times of the great Irish band.
The single, which was named after Bono's wife and her maiden surname, was released as a charity song back in 2015 for Chernobyl Children International, which is a cause close to Ali's heart.
"We'd always sworn we'd never do that but it sort of felt alright for the first time," says the band's Scott Pattison.
He adds, "We started with 'A Sort of Homecoming' and 'I Fall Down' and have ended up with a 10 song album for release in September called '33'."
The vinyl version of the album was actually made possible through pledges by U2 fans worldwide.
"We believe it's more than a covers album as we've recorded our own takes on the songs," Scott concludes. "We think this is possibly the first time anyone has taken on a project like this one and it's truly intended to be a celebration of U2's work, by fans for fans."
The album will be launched at The Church venue on Friday 22 September. The event has been organised as part of the annual #WelcomeToTheNorthside event for U2 fans, with Zooropa playing the following night.
