Rising garage rockers Search Results discuss their cracking new single ‘Be Laurel’ and their exciting live plans.
After the departure of your bassist, Adam Hoban, will there be any more line-up changes?
Jack: I think we’re just staying as a two-piece, and if there’s people who come along and suit the mood we’re in at the time, that’s fine. Adam leaving was very recent, so we haven’t thought about it that much.
Are you planning to release music soon?
Jack: We have a song called ‘Be Laurel’ out now and a new album, Go Mutant, set for release in May.
Fionn: With Go Mutant, we’re mixing things a bit more than usual. Compared to our last album, there’s more experimentation and variety. The quality of the recordings has also improved – it’s clearer, more hi-fi.

What’s your songwriting process like?
Jack: We usually write the songs separately and bring them in when they’re either finished or almost there.
Fionn: We write all of the notes of the musical alphabet on pieces of paper. We then put them into a hat, and pick some pieces out, and that’s how we decide what chords are going to be in the song. That’s the way it should be done, I think!
How do you feel about playing the End Of The Road festival this summer?
It’s really exciting. It’s going to be our first time playing an outdoors festival, so it’ll be fun. We’re also very excited about seeing Tropical Fuck Storm.
What are your thoughts on the current Irish scene?
There are a lot of different things going on, and a lot of great up-and-coming Irish bands: Ronan Group, Adore, Stupid Son, Robbie Stickland, Thee U.F.O. and lots more. We are lucky enough to be in those kind of circles – it can only be inspiring, really.
