For a while back there it looked like nu-metal was going to save rock music. Then we wised up and sent the angst-ridden, shorts-wearing whingers packing. Korn, however, never went away because they were there from the start, probably guilty of landing the whole thing on us in the first place. Not that Jonathon Davies would welcome the comparison, but the clashing of beats and riffs is still there, albeit wrapped up in something much darker and nastier. And this is not particularly pleasant stuff, for a number of reasons.
Davies is still unleashing his bile on the world, which is fine in theory – just why does it have to be such a turgid listening experience? See You On The Other Side limps along on a diet of tuneless, dirgey music and Davies’s frankly unappealing persona. This is supposed to be the album to halt Korn’s career slide, and put them back where they belong. It might do the latter – next to Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach in the dumper.
