The world-renowned artist's funeral procession will move through Dublin, before leaving for Nenagh in Co. Tipperary
Shane MacGowan will make his final journey through Dublin this Friday, December 8, with details of the route of his funeral procession through the capital city revealed today.
As reported by RTÉ, the Pogues icon's coffin will be taken by horse-drawn carriage on the route from Ringsend to Pearse Street, with the procession led by the Artane Band and a piper.
Proceedings will get underway at 10.30am at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium, with the procession moving onto South Lotts Road, across McMahon Bridge and down Pearse Street. From there, it will cross Westland Row and onto Fenian Street, before travelling on to Denzille Lane, where the coffin will be privately transferred to a hearse.
The procession is expected to last approximately an hour-and-a-quarter.
There will be some road closures, with traffic set to be held at junctions during the procession.
Following the procession through Dublin, the hearse will continue on to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, where Shane's funeral mass is taking place, at St Mary of the Rosary Church, in the afternoon.

The funeral is open to the public, with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, among those expect to attend, alongside notable figures from the Irish music world and beyond.
Shane MacGowan died in the early hours of Thursday, November 30, with his wife and family by his side. He had been released from St Vincent's the week before, after spending five months in hospital.
He is survived by his wife Victoria Mary Clarke, his sister Siobhan, his father Maurice, family, and a large circle of friends.
The day of Shane's funeral coincides with what would have been the 57th birthday of his late friend, Sinéad O'Connor.
