As part of the star-studded new TRA​И​Ƨ​A project – which is described as "a spiritual journey across 8 chapters and 46 songs, spotlighting the gifts of many of the most daring, imaginative trans and non-binary artists working today" – Sharon Van Etten and Ezra Furman have joined forces to cover Sinéad O'Connor's 'Feel So Different'.

The project, out now, is presented by the US-based non-profit Red Hot.

Over 100 artists contributed to the album, including Sade Adu, André 3000, Sam Smith, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Anohni, Fleet Foxes, Perfume Genius, Adrianne Lenker, Jeff Tweedy, Julien Baker and more. Irish artist SOAK also features on a cover of Belle and Sebastian's 'Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying'.

In a recent post on Instagram, Ezra Furman revealed that just two weeks after recording her vocals for her and Sharon Van Etten's rendition of 'Feel So Different', news came in about Sinéad's death.

"We couldn’t believe it," she remarked. "We had wondered if she would hear our version of her song. We were and are so sad to lose her. And it also felt so right that we were taking some of her still-brightly-burning fire to light our own torches and contribute to this magnificent collection."

In her own social media post, Sharon described 'Feel So Different' as an "essential Sinéad O'Connor anthem" – noting that, to her, it's "about not feeling like the same person anymore, as well as not wanting to be the person that other people want to define."

"When I was asked to choose a song and collaborator, it was straight off the heels of reading Why Sinéad O’Connor Matters by Allyson McCabe," she continued. "I was deeply moved by their perspective of the book and wanted to honour Sinéad in some way."

'Feel So Different' – which opens with 'The Serenity Prayer – originally featured on Sinéad O'Connor's second studio album, 1990's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.
