Sharon Van Etten has announced a special 10th anniversary edition of her fourth studio album Are We There, set for release on Friday, May 31.
The signer-songwriter has also revealed that an alternative version of the LP’s closing track ‘Every Time The Sun Comes Up’ will be available physically on August 23. The track is available to stream now.
"The whole time I was making Are We There, I was commuting to Hobo Sound from an apartment in the city, and I took a train to the bus station and walked from the Lincoln Tunnel to the studio in Weehawken, NJ,” Van Etten revealed in a statement.
“Making this record, my bandmates quickly became my family, and I realized I sought refuge in the studio. It was where I felt nurtured. It felt like home. I was able to find myself and I feel like that vulnerability and strength was captured through the collaborations on this album.
“The name of this album represents, for me, a place I departed from but with an acknowledgment that I haven’t yet arrived.”

The New Jersey native is no stranger celebrating anniversaries in style, previously inviting the likes of Justin Vernon, Lucinda Williams and Fiona Apple to record special covers for her 2010 offering Epic Ten. She also released a 11th year anniversary edition of her breakthrough full-length Tramp last year.
Her last studio album was 2022’s We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong. In 2023, Van Etten shared ‘Close To You’, which she wrote alongside with Courtney Barnett and covered the Ink Spots’ iconic ‘I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire’ with The Sopranos actor Michael Imperioli.
