D.E.A.F BECOMES HER Dublin’s Electronic Arts Festival continues to surpass itself.
D.E.A.F. – Dublin’s Electronic Arts Festival – is now in its eighth year and runs over 10 days, featuring more than 300 international and homegrown acts. This year a highlight is ‘u: mack presents WARP’, a record party featuring Tim Exile at the Button Factory on the Bank Holiday Sunday October 25.
The legend that is David Rodigan will be playing his very best reggae and roots at the Candy Collective / Choice Cuts event on October 22 at Sugar Club. Graphic designer Vaughan Oliver is also talking shop on the same night. There will also be an Irish record label party at the newly popular venue Pygmallion, October 24 featuring Aciitone, D1 Recordings, Elevation, FVF, Mode Music, Nice & Nasty, Psychonavigation, SeedyR, and Stereotonic, a free event from 5pm – 3am.
Other acts to watch out for: Tim Green, Mark Broom, Cristian Vogel and Irelands Spilly Walker, Jamie Behan and techno genius Sunil Sharpe. For dates and tickets, go to www.deafireland.com
Ireland’s Berlin-based Dancepig, aka Dara O'Neill, is making a return to our shores at Wax, Dublin on October 10. His Countdown remix has just been released online at www.kingnail.com.
Proud as punch DJ/producer Dave De Valera has had his EP, Say That, signed to club66 Records, with remixes coming in from Brian Taaffe, Def Disko and LOKO, who has also remixed Aki Bergen. De Valera’s EP will be available in November.
German DJ/Producer Gregor Tresher is releasing his album, The Life Wire, at the end of October on his own label, Break New Soil. Both Laurent Garnier and Ritchie Hawtin and Ivan Smagghe (come to Ireland soon, Ivan!) are showing serious love for his work. Top track on the album is ‘The Very End’: remixes are due to follow the LP’s release.
Serving up dance music with a greater conscience is The Resistance Tour, a traveling party with a mission that is visiting European clubs throughout autumn. Resistance DJs Arveene (Clampdown) and DJ Wool (Plant NYC) will be joined on stage by some of Europe’s hottest DJs and emerging local talent. DFA duo Still Going have a new release out at the beginning of October called ‘Spaghetti Circus/ Untitled Love’, a top tune with pianos, synths and vocals from Reggie Watts and Andrew Rapposo on bass (formerly of Hercules and Love Affair).
Something a little different is coming to Ireland under the Rap Ireland crew aegis is Wu Tang’s RZA on October 8 at the Button Factory, while Tinchey Stryder is their guest in PortRush’s Lush Nightclub on October 27,
In the next edition of Hot Press I will be taking a look at the best Halloween events to attend, but one worth giving a mention now for fear of it being sold out is Shine in Belfast, which will be celebrating 14 years on October 31. The event will be spread over three rooms, with DJ Sneak, Alan Simms, Pendulum, Jesse Rose and Belfast man Timmy Stewart.
