Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Kildare, the singer-songwriter and self-taught producer is rightfully being tipped as one of the next trailblazing R&B voices.
Following a gorgeous performance on the Hot Press Lockdown Sessions Y&E series last month and three single releases, Zimbabwean-Irish artist shiv has returned with her complete Me 2 Me EP.
Written, recorded, and produced entirely by Shiv in the space of a year, the six-track EP is an exploration into the artist's inner world. “It was only when I listened to these songs in a particular order that I felt I was truly immersed in the story I had been trying so hard to tell,” explains Shiv. “This EP is essentially a look into my relationship with myself and my creative process.”
Garnering across-the-board praise for her previously released singles, the journey of discovery for this young talent has been rapid. The record uses soulful, R&B and melodic tinges to show vulnerability and the crippling fear that most young adults encounter throughout growing up. “I spent the majority of this year living in my own self-imposed purgatory, desperately wanting to create but being so afraid of what that meant. Afraid of what people would think of what was inside of me, afraid of being open enough to bear my thoughts and feelings to be judged.”
