Interview with The Hothouse Flowers
@hotpress: The Hothouse Flowers are playing The Village as part of the ‘With A Little Help From Our Friends’ Lir benefit gig. Excited?
@fobraonain: Suited, booted, ready to go! Rob Malone played bass with us back in the ‘90s and told us all the great Lir stories. It was a no-brainer.
@hotpress: Lir have one hell of story, an ongoing one...
@fobraonain: I saw them them once in the Olympia from the side of the stage and thought they were like Led Zeppelin at full tilt.
@hotpress: Something Happens are also on the bill...
@fobraonain: Back in the day we’d often end up in the same pubs and clubs and on the same stages. It’ll be great to catch up with them.
@hotpress: It’s a pretty unique gig. Do you notice a different atmosphere at these things?
@fobraonain: There’s a real sense of occasion. It really is a bunch of old friends coming together to help out another bunch of old friends.
@hotpress: You recently played alongside Nick Seymour at the Philip Chevron Testimonial.
@fobraonain: He gave me a dig out! It was a huge undertaking. Philip wanted ‘Faithful Departed’ but Liam and Peter were away.
@hotpress: Have you listened back to it?
@fobraonain: I fast-forwarded to my bit! I heard Philip felt that we had breathed new life into his words. You couldn’t ask for more than that.
@hotpress: He’s been a huge contributor to Irish music.
@fobraonain: He sure has. Incredible songs and the diversity of styles.
The Hothouse Flowers play With A Little Help From Our Friends, which takes place in the Village, Dublin on September 21.
