Audioslave are fundamentally Rage Against the Machine with a new singer in the beautiful form of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden… as such, if you liked Soundgarden and loved Rage Against the Machine, your feelings towards this single will probably fall somewhere between the degrees of love and like. Probably love. Let’s face it: Tom Morello virtually re-invented the guitar in the nineties. However, his pyrotechnics do veer towards overkill at times on the album. They aren’t as necessary for this much more melodic collection of songs. On this single though, they get the balance right providing Chris Cornell with a little more breathing space to hang his memorable hooklines. On an album with few potential singles to choose from, this one works.
