The lawsuit comes in the hopes it will uncover the identity of the attempted thief.
Australian singer Sia has filed a lawsuit against an unidentified person who has been attempting to access her unreleased music in order to reveal their identity.
The unidentified John/Jane Doe defendant has been illegally sending emails to industry insiders demanding access to Sia's unreleased recordings, posed as the singer herself. They are thought to live in California, though not much else is known about the person. The lawsuit hopes to obtain records from any email providers used by the alleged perpetrator to send the messages, and thus expose their identity.
Sia is seeking damages for the email spoofing, identity theft and invasion of privacy, along with her attorney fees.
The lawsuit contains allegations that "defendant has emailed a number of persons in the music industry with whom plaintiff is acquainted, including California residents, identifying him or herself as plaintiff, using an email address containing plaintiff’s name," and "fraudulently asking the acquaintances to send the person recordings of plaintiff performing that are not publicly available."

Titled Reasonable Woman, the singer shared the first single off of the album in September titled 'Gimme Love', the music video for which was released this week.
