Simple As Hell [music video]
Math pop foursome Eaten By Bears first crossed my path around this time last year, when they were chosen as the winners of Pick For The Picnic, the annual new band competition that sends one lucky act smiling and buzzing to play Electric Picnic. Of course, there was a lot more violin back then, a lot more grindcore screeching and just a tad more yodeling. It’s actually hard to believe that I’m looking at the same band in the video for ‘Simple As Hell’; as four scruffy young lads fumble about on a beach floor, it makes for an altogether cheerier picture. Granted, the sound’s changed a lot, but there’s something awfully familiar about this track, namely the clever hooks (think a tropical Two Door Cinema Club), the nifty musicianship and the fact that Eaten By Bears manage to make themselves triumphantly memorable in a matter of minutes.
