The song comes from personal experience of feeling voiceless in a political setting.
Sibling duo Sisterix have released their third single, titled 'The Family'. The song marks a decidedly political turn in the girl's music, offering a searing commentary on the "hidden dysfunctions of the most dominant of social institutions.
"For all its outward aspiration, the nuclear family unit remains a site of suffering and oppression for countless women and children, a reality frequently brushed under the carpet by a system that still benefits from the unpaid labour of women in the home," reads a statement.
Of the song, Síomha says, "I think the truth of it is that even for my generation, there is still a lot of trauma from growing up in Ireland. I think I’m only really registering that so much of what I experienced is not acceptable. The shaming, the repression, and the conservatism that pervaded our society and its institutions.”
