The band look set to topple Ed Sheeran from the top spot this weekend.
Having been released last weekend, Slipknot's new album We Are Your Kind was the comeback that the American heavy metal band deserved - gaining widespread acclaim and exemplifying the band's full inventiveness and variety.
Now, Slipknot are on course to peak at the number one spot on the UK Official Charts this Friday.
According to the Official Charts, the heavy metal group’s sixth studio album - and first in almost five years - leads the Official Chart Update, currently ahead of Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project by over 13,000 chart sales.
Slipknot have sold the most physical copies and digital downloads across the weekend, while Ed Sheeran's collaborative album still has the edge on streaming.
The news comes just a few weeks after Slipknot made the announcement that they'll be taking their 2020 European tour to Dublin. Despite having yet to share a date, the band made the announcement back in July.

Speaking about their album We Are Not Your Kind recently, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root said: “This is the most time we’ve had to write a record, and work stuff out together. One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full length albums - not just songs. While the industry is moving toward singles, SLIPKNOT wanted to make an album experience, front to back.”
“These days the art we are making comes with the highest reward, because it’s taken the most time,” added Shawn Crahan. “Almost four years to create this emotion and temperature, and the reward now is nothing short of salvation.”
