The single is the second off the indie singer-songwriter’s upcoming EP, 20-Something.
Dublin-based indie artist Somebody’s Child has unveiled a new single titled ‘We Could Start a War.’
‘We Could Start a War’ is ambitious indie-pop in the tradition of the singer-songwriter’s past hits, which include ‘Love That Sound’ and ‘Make You Alright.’
After a long, melodic intro, Somebody’s Child belts “before we get and older / you know we could start a war.’ The track’s drums then kick in, pulling the listener into a mood of righteous indignation.
This sense of anger seems timely: We’re in the middle of a global pandemic and a civil rights movement, after all. But Somebody’s Child says he didn’t write the song with this moment in mind.
“This track was written before life changed for everyone,” he said, “and has developed a much deeper meaning over the last couple of months.”

‘We Could Start a War’ is the second single Somebody’s Child has released from his upcoming debut EP, 20-Something. The first, ‘Hold Me Like You Wanna,’ came out in June and appeared on New Music Friday and The Indie List, two taste-making Spotify playlists.
In a press release, Somebody’s Child described the forthcoming EP: “20-Something is the first real taste of who I want to be as an artist and as a songwriter. It’s inspired by music I actually listen to on a regular basis.
“Everything before this has just been to test the waters, but for the first time since this started it feels like this is what I’m really about,” he said.
20-Something is set to come out on August 7. Until then, you can stream ‘We Could Start a War’ on all major services.
