Hot Press ‘Hot for 2017’ pick SON (aka Susan O’Neill) has been confirmed as the support act for The Wedding Present’s gig in The Academy this coming Saturday (June 17th).
David Gedge and co will be hitting Dublin to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their 1987 debut George Best. While the band has always featured a revolving cast of players, current members include Charles Layton on drums, Danielle Wadey on bass, and Marcus Kain on guitar. Tickets still available from the usual outlets.
Meanwhile, it’s shaping up to be a fairly hectic summer for Susan. The beautiful, huskily-voiced, singer-songwriter will be joining HamsandwicH down in Listowel venue Mike The Pies on July 21st. She’s also supporting fellow Clare-native Sharon Shannon in the National Concert Hall on August 17th.
SON – whose exclusive hotpress.com cover of U2’s ‘Exit’ was praised by no less an authority than Bono himself – has also been booked to play The Word Stage in Mindfield at Electric Picnic in September. Day yet to be announced.
Susan also sings with Waterford acts King Kong Company and Propeller Palms, and they’re also keeping her busy. Having just slayed a 5,000 strong crowd at the Vestrock festival in the Netherlands last weekend, KKC are playing Body & Soul on June 23rd before dashing over to Glastonbury to play the Silver Hayes Stage the following night.
Recently returned from a successful jaunt to the US on the back of their sophomore album Old Dog New Tricks, Propeller Palms will be sharing the main stage with UB40 and The Blades at Waterford’s Day Tripper on August 26th.

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, SON will be returning to Holland for her second string of dates supporting her acclaimed solo debut, Found Myself Lost. Details to be announced.
