Numerous high-profile artists rushed to social media to back the new frontrunner for the Democrat nomination
The music world has taken to social media in reaction to Joe Biden’s landmark decision not to seek re-election, with the likes of Cardi B, John Legend, Ariana Grande and more pledging their support to Democratic nominee favourite and US Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 U.S presidential election.
“AHAHAHAHA LETS GOOOOO I TOLD YALLL KAMALA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE 2024 candidate…..,” wrote Cardi B on X, replying to a previous video in which she reacted to the debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden last month . “STOP FCKIN PLAYIN WITH ME !!!!!!!”
Elsewhere, on Instagram, Ariana Grande shared Biden’s post endorsing Harris as his replacement, while US rapper Lil Nas X tweeted: “Ur seat is ready madam president… lock in lil bro! @KamalaHarris”
Grammy-winning singer John Legend said Joe Biden had "more than earned re-election, but time and age come for us all", in a post on Instagram before he endorsed Harris as the President’s replacement.

Charli XCX got involved too, posting “kamala IS brat” to X. This inspired Harris’ campaign to make the banner image on its Harris HQ page a spoof of the British singer’s Brat album, which has been the subject of widespread viral attention upon its release in June.
Harris has also been at the centre of another meme surrounding the phrase ‘You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’ Its origins lie in a speech the Vice President gave in May last year, where she made a point about the need to focus on young people and their wider community simultaneously. Human beings, Harris iterated at the time, don’t exist in a silo, stating that a host of factors help to make us who we are.
She then delivered the line “I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people, you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” with a hearty laugh. The moment was quickly edited into a 12-second soundbite, which has since featured in over 18,000 TikTok videos.
