Founded by Roger Woolman, Phil Udell, Simon Roche and John Walshe in late 2007, with Niall Byrne contributing as staff writer and web editor, State was involved in championing Irish music and Irish journalism for a decade.

The original State Magazine ran for 10 issues, but ill-timing and a global recession meant that it became a stop-start affair, never gaining the requisite traction in print. Despite this, their annual 'State Faces Of' magazine beautifully showcased emerging artists on the Irish scene.

The website lived on, however, and provided coverage of music and culture from Ireland and beyond long after printing had stopped. State.ie was helmed by current editor Aaron Drain and film editor Stacy Grouden until the decision was made to cease its operations today.

It will be sadly missed.
