"The disintegration of Roe v. Wade will change your life in an unfathomable way," the singer writes to her fans, encouraging everyone to vote for their collective future.
Stevie Nicks has released a statement on Instagram urging fans to register to vote before midterms by sharing a heartfelt poem that she plans to into a song.
The poem, titled 'Get It Back', was shared by Nicks yesterday (October 10) along with a note at the beginning that is addressed to "friends, fans, and women of America; from 18 to 100 years old".
"AT 74 years old, I can honestly say that I am worried for every one of you," the singer writes. "Worried about health care, and just in general, worried about your God given rights." She continues by heavily encouraging fans to register to vote, especially since the deadline for a lot of Americans is October 11th. "You must vote," the Fleetwood Mac member states earnestly.
"The disintegration of Roe v. Wade will change your life in an unfathomable way. You will not have control of what your beautiful dreams want for you," she presses. "Your lives will be in the hands of government officials who do not know you and cannot possibly know what your future should be. You are the masters of your own ship."
Nicks goes on to lament on her experiences of what happened to women from 1966 to 1973 when she was ages 18-25, up to 2 years before she first joined Fleetwood Mac. During this time, American women were doing everything to fight for equality in the workforce and in pregnancy. It was in the 1960s that the U.S. government approved birth control pills to give women the freedom to choose pregnancy, and 1973 marked the Supreme Court's passing of Roe v. Wade, which made abortion legal and accessible for all. "Believe me when I tell you, you don't want that world to come back," Nicks warned.

"Please vote, and call everyone you know and ask them to join. Read the words to my song. I wrote it for you. I love you," Nicks concluded. The letter followed with a two-page poem.

"And all the rights you had yesterday/ Are taken away/ And now you're afraid/ You should be afraid/ Because everything I've fought for/ Long ago in a dream~ is gone" the singer writes. Nicks' poem brings a strong sense of urgency towards voting in order to prevent history from repeating itself. "Try to see the future/ And get mad" she encourages her fans through the lines of 'Get It Back'.
Nicks has been one of the countless celebrities to speak on the overturning 0f Roe v. Wade that happened back in June. The reversal took away the constitutional right to abortion for anyone that is able to give birth in the U.S., and many states had trigger bans in effect that made abortion illegal the minute the Supreme Court made its ruling. "History is repeating itself, and it's even more frightening this time," Nicks wrote in an Instagram post back in June.
The star made a promise to record the song, but as of now there is no clear release date. She is currently on a tour across North America until the end of October.
