The Police have been offered a whopping $9million US dollars to reform for a one-off festival in California next year, according to reports.
The organisers of the Desert Trip Festival are prepared to offer the trio the staggering sum to headline next year's festival in California, say industry insiders.
The likes of Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Neil Young played at the festival back in October this year.
The Police first broke-up in 1986 and got back together two decades later to play a series of reunion gigs in 2007-2008. They played some 150-plus dates and earned a reported £292 million sterling from that reunion.
So, looking at such figures, it’s probably no wonder that they’re being offered a cool $9million for this one-off festival. It’ll certainly sounds like a tempting deal for Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copland.
Sting – who reportedly turned down other big deal offers during the past decade to perform with The Police – once famously stated he’d no interest in playing with the band anymore. “It’s done. Over. I thought with The Police that everything we achieved in the short amount of time we were together, in five or six years, we achieved 10-fold, 50-fold, and that artistic park has been used up.”
However, it’s be interesting to see if he’ll be able to turn down such an astronomical sum for one festival.
But unlike the lady of the night in their hit single ‘Roxanne’ who was desperate to earn money, the band members' very healthy bank balances means Sting could easily walk away from such a mouthwatering $9million deal.
