Students of Pobalscoil Neasain in Baldoyle were treated to an exclusive premiere of the new video.
Following the release of his acclaimed album Heavy Is The Head in December, Stormzy has exclusively premiered the video for one of the project's standout tracks, 'Superheroes', to students in randomly selected classrooms across the UK and Ireland – including Pobalscoil Neasain in Baldoyle, Dublin.
The animated music video was also accompanied by a powerful speech from Stormzy:
“I wanted to show it to you guys first [because] being students at school, I think it’s important that you guys understand how powerful you are,” he said. “Despite the colour of your skin, despite where you come from, despite your religion, despite whatever it is that you feel may be holding you back; you are a Superhero. So, I wanted to make this video to inspire you guys, to make you realise that the sky is the limit.”
Directed by Taz Tron Delix, the animated visual garners inspiration from children’s films – while also honouring several real-life superheroes, including UK artists Dave and Little Simz. Stormzy’s lyrics also reference Noughts and Crosses author Malorie Blackman, actor and comedian Michael Dapaah (famed for his Big Shaq character), and Serena and Venus Williams.
