Other highlights of the festival include a special celebration of The Incredible String Band – featuring founding member Mike Heron, as well as Junior Brother, Sam Amidon and more.
Skinty Records – the traditional Irish music label founded by Fontaines D.C.'s Tom Coll – has joined forces with Broadside Hacks, Bird On The Wire, Rough Trade Records and River Lea to curate a new one-day festival, Subterranean, coming to various venues in London's Southbank Centre on Saturday, September 20.
The line-up – which aims to champion "the subterranean music and traditions of today" – features an exciting selection of Irish talent, including Lisa O'Neill, Muireann Bradley, Poor Creature, and Junior Brother.
The festival will kick off with a matinee show (1pm) in the Purcell Room, featuring American folk royalty Peggy Seeger and Muireann Bradley, live in conversation – "diving into Peggy’s decorated career, and looking forward towards Muireann’s bright future." You can expect stories, music and more from these two folk artists, born over seven decades apart.
For the afternoon (3.30pm), Broadside Hacks have curated a celebration of the psych-folk pioneers The Incredible String Band, in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. The show will feature a rare appearance from founding member Mike Heron, as well as special guests Junior Brother, Sam Amidon, and more.
Cavan singer-songwriter Lisa O'Neill will headline the evening show (7.30pm) in the Royal Festival Hall, with support from special guests Poor Creature (made up of Lankum's Cormac Mac Diarmada, Landless's Ruth Clinton, and The Jimmy Cake's John Dermody).
