With the combination of the Live Performance Support Scheme and the success of the Government's test gigs at the Iveagh Gardens and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, we are on the verge of a huge explosion of music activity. As part of our Summer of Music 2021 special feature, we spoke to some of the artists preparing to return to the stage...
Dea Matrona
“We can’t wait to get back playing to a live audience. It could be quite nerve-wracking at first – but once we get back at it we’ll quickly get used to it again! We may do a bit of busking to get back into the swing of things before we return to actual gigs. I actually think there’ll be a new-found appreciation of live music. We all took it a bit for granted in the past, so once we get back out to a gig I think it’ll be more fun and more memorable than ever. I think I’m most looking forward to that unique atmosphere that’s exclusive to a gig. It’s going to be such a great feeling.”
• Dea Matrona play the Spirit Store, Dundalk (December 12); Kasbah Social Club, Limerick (18); Cyprus Avenue, Cork (19); Whelan's, Dublin (27); and Limelight 1, Belfast (28). For more information see deamatrona.co.uk
