With the combination of the Live Performance Support Scheme and the success of the Government's test gigs at the Iveagh Gardens and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, we are on the verge of a huge explosion of music activity. As part of our Summer of Music 2021 special feature, we spoke to some of the artists preparing to return to the stage...
John Spillane
“I’m feeling excited at the prospect of having punters in front of me. I won’t be taking live gigs for granted any more! I’m feeling refreshed after the long break, and I’m looking forward to the new normal. I’ve been gigging since I was 16, and never thought we would be cut short like this. Performers will be more grateful to have the opportunity to perform, which will hopefully improve the standard of performance. The audiences will drink in these gigs with a renewed thirst for the arts. To have released my new 100 Snow White Horses album without any gigs was strange, and it’s gonna be lovely to get these songs out into the ether. I also look forward to hanging out with musicians and having a laugh, drinking the odd pint and seeing the lovely places around Ireland where I love to visit, play gigs and write songs about."
