With the combination of the Live Performance Support Scheme and the success of the Government's test gigs at the Iveagh Gardens and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, we are on the verge of a huge explosion of music activity. As part of our Summer of Music 2021 special feature, we're taking a look at some of the most eagerly anticipated events of the summer...
Where: Joe Lee’s Bar & Music Venue in Tullamore, Co.Offaly
When: July 30 – August 1
Who: New Jackson, A. Smyth, AILSHA, Gemma Dunleavy, Thumper, Tolü Makay, The Zen Arcade, Tony Cantwell and more
What: Organised by Cherrycool, the promoters behind Castlepalooza, Viva Palooza is coming to the iconic Joe Lee's Bar this August Bank Holiday weekend – with a line-up that includes some of the top talent in the country. This summer's event follows the success of Cherrycool Promotions' Après Palooza in December 2020, which featured 10 individually curated events in the outdoor beer garden of Joe Lee's Bar – transformed into a rustic ski lodge for the occasion.
The project has been part-funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media as part of the Live Performance Support Scheme 2021. “We are very grateful for the Department’s scheme, which is bringing events like this to the Irish public this summer,” head organiser Cillian Stewart tells Hot Press. “We were one of many promoters that got funding and we’re delighted to be back working again on this series of events.”
Make sure to: Watch Thumper’s blistering live set: they’re the real deal.
