It’s a jam-packed October – with producer Sunil Sharp leading the way.
Sunil Sharp has a busy October ahead. He has an EP, Cadya, out on Trensmat and a remix for Uretran (aka Bleaching Agent). His Tinfoil label and DeFeKt, a production collaboration with Mathew Flanagan, are going from strength to strength. The track ‘Foil 1’ has been licenced to the I Love Techno mix CD out early October. Plus ‘Foil 2’ has been licensed to Rebekah’s next mix CD on CLR.
Robert Tomcik released his remix for Deepologic on Loco Supreme on September 15. Soundskeeper Willy put out his Mood Lift EP on Soundwaves on September 21 with a remix from Sarah Monks. Sarah has worked with Rob Kelly and The Animators. And her music has been featured on BBC 1Xtra. L.A.W. released their Intravenous EP on Nonlinear Systems on September 29. It featured a remix from Sleaze Records label boss Hans Bouffmyhre.
In clubbing news, Hidden Agenda celebrate their birthday with two shows. On October 3 they host Swiss producer Cyril Hahn in the Button Factory, following his sell-out show in March. The following night in the Opium Rooms Mount Kimbie will deliver a DJ set.
October 3 is pretty busy around the country. In Dublin Prosumer and Murat Tupeli play the Twisted Pepper. Psy Trance superstar Shane Gobi plays with PT Connection in The Pint. Kyodia plays the Twisted Pepper, Wanklemut visits Opium Rooms and Dusky is in the Academy.
The Prima Volta Music and Arts Festival kicks off in Limerick city. The festival is organised by a collective of musicians, promoters and producers in conjunction with Limerick City of Culture 2014. Dolans Warehouse hosts Manchester club night Hoya:Hoya on the Friday. Artists performing through the weekend include Illum Sphere, Stray, Sam Binga, Johnny Dub, Kutmah and Fatima.
Jika Jika! presents Nathan Fake and James Zabiela in Tooban, Donegal on Saturday October 4. The previous night The Savoy in Cork welcomes Croyden dubstep pioneer Skream. He shot to fame with his album Skream! in 2006. He is also known for his involvement in dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, alongside Benga and Artwork.
On October 4 Andhim perform with Re:Publik in Crystal Nightclub Waterford. The Cologne duo describe their sound as “super house”. They launched in 2010 – within a year their records were in the crates of some of the world's top house DJs. They have released with Terminal M and Get Physical. Elsewhere, Bastardo Electrico welcome Prosumer and Murat Tupeli to Cyprus Avenue Cork.
On October 9 Carbon nightclub Galway hosts London producer George Fitzgerald. He plays in Dublin on October 10 in the Twisted Pepper. On October 11 Mumbai Science are playing in Carbon and Luke Barnett’s Free Techno party returns to the Hub in Dublin with Doug Cooney.
On a closing note I have been appointed music director at Pygmalion, Dublin. On October 3 we launch Garage, a throwback to the days of Paradise Garage (NYC) and Powerplant (Chicago). On October 4 we launch Division, which in keeping with the tradition of Pygmalion, will be a slice of Berlin on a weekly basis. Resident DJs include Tonie Walsh, Niall Redmond, Tom Lowe, Sexshop, Mantis, Colin Perkins and myself.
