The lauded folk songsmith returns with her album of all new songs in over a decade.
Suzanne Vega has announced the release of her first full-length album of new music in over a decade.
Produced by longtime collaborator and guitarist Gerry Leonard, Flying With Angels hits shelves and streaming platforms on 2nd May via Cooking Vinyl, and is available to pre-order here.
Coupled with the album's announcement, Vega has also shared the socially-charged lead single 'Speakers' Corner', featuring an animated lyric video by Michael Arthur. The offering acknowledges the political nature of communication today, when the ability to speak one's mind is easier than ever on social media, despite the misuse of that privilege.
“That’s something you don’t want in democracy: the shutting down of the Speakers’ Corner where people get a say," Vega says. "This is a moment in time when people are saying a lot, but sometimes they’re not making sense or not telling the truth. People should be accountable for what they say. They can’t just lie. One would think that that would be self-evident.”

“Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle,” Vega says of Flying With Angels. “Struggle to survive, to speak, to dominate, to win, to escape, to help someone else, or just live.”
To celebrate the forthcoming album, Vega will tour throughout the UK, Europe and North America, performing a set of career-spanning songs as well as showcasing new material from the album. Her extensive UK run takes in London's iconic Royal Albert Hall, and stops in Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool and more. See here for more details on Vega's upcoming tour.
Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk revival of the early 1980s. Since the release of her self-titled, critically-acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has released numerous songs that have become ingrained in the contemporary music landscape, including 'Luka' and 'Tom's Diner'. The latter remains an oft-sampled and covered standard by artists across the musical spectrum. Her albums, including her self-titled debut, follow-up Solitude Standing and 99.9F have sold millions of copies worldwide.
