Synergia 03 is an enticing, and occasionally exciting, snapshot of contemporary Irish club culture, showcasing the pristine sounds of established names and emerging talents alike. When compared to previous volumes, it mirrors the technological advances made in the interim and highlights the continuing diverse nature of the clever and underrated beast they call Irish dance.
The big guns are here in force and exuding confidence. D1’s deep techno, Headzinc’s sleazy funk, Spectrum Is Green’s jazzy house, and Messiah J & The Expert’s dirty hip-hop – all fine examples of maestros at the top of their game. Of the familiar acts, only Hedrock Valley Beats disappoint with a lazy old skool sample-fest that takes a lot and gives back very little.

Giving their all and perhaps exciting the most are some of the young guns, not least Halfset with their sexy slice of Celtic funk, ‘Laptop Dancer’. Or The Tycho Brahe, whose ‘Defiance’ walks the walk with guitars, bass and an irresistible female vocal – you’ll be itching to catch these cats strut their stuff some more.
The guts of E20 for this collection would be reasonably good value for your hard-earned, so imagine the pleasure you’ll get from acquiring this compilation of cutting-edge cool for free. Grab one while you can from www.frisco.ie (as an MP3 download) or from selected outlets nationwide.
