“As you may or may not know, I have an album called Lover that comes out in a month… so that’s crazy!”
Last night in an Instagram live video, Taylor Swift announced the release of the song ‘The Archer’, off her upcoming album Lover.
‘The Archer’ is not a single, rather “just a glimpse into another side of the album,” Swift explained. Swifties will note that this is the infamous fifth track off the album, which tends to be the most emotional and vulnerable track.
The song itself sounds as if Taylor Swift covered a Lana Del Ray song. The long-tone synths, simple vocals, and sinful lyrics still manage to maintain Swift’s innocent ambiance. “All the king’s horses / And all the king’s men / Couldn’t put me together again,” she sings in reference to the Humpty Dumpty children’s rhyme.
Taylor Swift revealed that, per usual, she hid numerous Easter eggs that hinted at the song. The most obvious, however, was when Hayley Kiyoko drew a bow and arrow and hit a bullseye with the numeral “5” painted on it in the music video for ‘You Need to Calm Down.’
‘The Archer’ and ‘You Need to Calm Down’ will appear on Swift’s seventh album, Lover, set for release on 23 August. Swift revealed last night that the 18-track album will be available in four different deluxe editions, “each filled with completely unique content.”
In celebration of the 13th year (Swift’s lucky number) of her putting out albums, Swift went through piles of her meticulous diaries and scanned 120 pages to curate four different editions to accompany the CD.

“Everything from pictures drawn, photos of that time in my life, you know I used to tape stuff in my diaries, that stuff’s all in there,” she revealed.
Each of the four deluxe editions will contain 30 pages of journal entries as well as blank space in the back for fans to write their own diary entries. The back pocket will contain the CD, a poster, and a lyric booklet.
All four versions of the deluxe edition are available for preorer here and the album can be pre-saved on streaming sites here.
