This Hot for 2019 act is sizzling...
Irish hip-hop duo Tebi Rex today release their debut album, The Young Will Eat The Old after months of anticipation.
Unless you've been living under a sizeable, sound-proofed rock, you've probably noticed the resurgence of the Irish hip-hop scene. Named as one of our Hot for 2019 Irish Acts, Tebi Rex is at the helm of this shift.
Tebi Rex, made of Max Zanga and Matt O’Baoill, have established a dynamic range of musical endeavours ranging from bouncy, dubstep-lite pop to heavier alt-rap tracks. They have expanded the idea of a concept piece to their upcoming album, The Young Will Eat the Old. The album centres around how we are all destined to be better than what came before us but also doomed to fall prey to their same mistakes.
Inspired by Greek mythology, and the growing interest in Ireland’s music scene, the duo closely examine the potential for their own bleak future should they misstep in these early years of recognition.
“It falls in three acts so there are versions of ourselves that are much further along in their lives," says Zanga. "Essentially, it's a hesitant prophecy."
A story in three acts, the album take us on the journey from the heady rise of its characters to the eventual crushing low. Throughout the 12 songs, the lads explore hope and despair on top of easy-listening, head-bopping tracks.

The self-declared "best live Irish hip-hop act" are due to take to the stage in October for Ireland Music Week - where previous line-up acts have included Fontaines DC and Kojaque.
Tebi Rex will also play the Lost Lane in Dublin on 9 November. Tickets for the gig can be purchased for €16.45 here.
