The play is inspired by the band's upcoming final album, and will feature songs from the record.
Max Zanga has announced a new play, Fin.- The Harbinger of Death, set to premiere at the Smock Alley Theatre as part of the Scene + Heard Festival, on February 18 and 19, at 8:00 pm.
The play follows three different people who end up having an encounter with the Harbinger of Death, and it stars Mango, Ahmed Karim Tamu, and Siobhán Matshazi.
Zanga, one half of the Kildare-native hip hop duo Tebi Rex, has shared in a recent Instagram post that the play "is inspired by the new album and features some songs from the project." The band had already announced the release of their final album in January of this year. They also recently shared that the release of the album's lead single, 'Fin.' will take place on Wednesday, February 26.
'Meet Fin. He’s the Harbinger of Death," reads the promotion for the play. "Only it’s his first day on the job and he’s still getting the hang of it. If you see him, he might be there to pay his respects. Sure people die every day but so do concepts and ideas. They also deserve to be honoured right? Maybe he’s come as a warning. The path you’re on may be treacherous or dangerous or even worse, a really bad buzz."
Tebi Rex released their acclaimed debut album, The Young Will Eat The Old, in 2019, whose single 'I Never Got Off the Bus' made waves after appearing in the Normal People soundtrack. Posterior releases include 2021's It's Gonna Be Okay, and the 2023 Sitcom EP, which contains the single 'People Pleaser.' Last year they played at the 2024 Africa Day Festival, among other performances.
