The 1975 frontman Matty Healy made the announcement onstage at their most recent show.
The 1975 have announced they will replace Lewis Capaldi at upcoming festival Reading & Leeds, taking place on August 26-27.
While onstage at TRNSMT festival on Sunday, frontman Matty Healy announced the lineup change mid-performance. He revealed that the band will be playing their 2013 self-titled debut album in full during the performance, in celebration of 10 years since its release. The band also headlined the event in 2022.

Lewis Capaldi and The 1975 have collaborated in the past, the band bringing Capaldi onstage earlier this year at their Newcastle show to much fanfare. Healy voiced his support for the singer during Sunday's announcement, following the cancellation of Capaldi's performances for the "foreseeable future".
Capaldi recently took to social media to explain his upcoming absence from the festival rotation. In a post on his twitter, Capaldi said his Glastonbury set in June made him aware that he needs to "spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order."

The set was his return after a three-week break, but the singer admitted part way through that he was losing his voice. He has spoken frequently about his Tourette's, and mentioned in the post that he is "still learning to adjust to the impact" of it.

Capaldi's cancelled performances include his headlining Reading & Leeds slot, as well as the Electric Picnic slot. The Irish festival has not yet revealed which artist will replace the singer, though an announcement is expected soon.
Tickets for Electric Picnic are currently sold out, and the festival will take place September 1-3 in Stradbally, County Laois.
