The duo from Tipperary have released a new song and video to celebrate the good man himself, St. Patrick
Tipperary's dynamic duo, The 2 Johnnies, have kicked off the St. Patrick's Day celebrations with their latest single, 'St. Patrick Drove a Honda Civic.' The track, the first release from their upcoming album, pays homage to the Irish holiday uniquely and humorously.
Directed by Shane Seranno, the music video for the song was shot in Dolan’s, Limerick, and on a closed set in Co. Clare, featuring over 30 extras, a Honda Civic, and even a cameo from St. Patrick himself. The video tells the lesser-known but undoubtedly true tale of how St. Patrick had a penchant for chicken fillet rolls, taught Larry Mullen Jr. the drums, and, of course, drove a Honda Civic.
During filming, the Gardaí were called twice due to concerns from citizens who thought a crime was being committed. It seems St. Patrick enjoys doing doughnuts in his Civic, so much so that Johnny Smacks ended up pulling a muscle in his back during the shoot.
Reflecting on the experience, Johnny Smacks humorously remarked, "I was bet into the seat with my eyes closed the whole time, it was worse than the worst rollercoaster or the taxi home when you’ve the spinnies after a feed of sambuca!"
Johnny B chimed in with his sentiment, expressing his lifelong desire for a Honda Civic, reminiscent of the "cool lads" from his youth. He joked, "Bond might have had an Aston Martin, but we’ve got a Civic - just like St. Patrick!"

Amidst the excitement of the new release, The 2 Johnnies have a packed schedule for 2024, including their "Live in London – Paddy’s Eve Party" at EartH in Hackney on March 16. Additionally, they will be headlining events such as "Pints in A Field" at St. Anne’s Park, Dublin on June 8, the "Galway Summer Sessions" at Galway Airport on August 17, and an "All Ages Show" at TUS Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on September 1.
As they continue to make waves in the music scene, The 2 Johnnies offer a unique soundtrack that captures the essence of Irish life with authenticity, humour, and a touch of nostalgia.
