In this, the (sort of) new video from Dublin rockers Heritage Centre, a very vintage-looking gentleman called Christian Cassette announces that the band are “making all the right noises at the moment”, but really, he needn’t have bothered. Mixing lines that could easily have fallen from the lips of Paul Henreid (‘Oh mon cheri, I’m born again…’) with tongue-in-cheek garage rock tropes like, ‘It was really rockin’/It was so fucking cool’, ‘The Boss’ is a rousing little number that speaks for itself. Heritage Centre take things back a couple of decades with their ‘60s-inspired video, which takes cues from the retro shenanigans of Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’, Weezer’s ‘Buddy Holly’ and Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya’, only with one crucial difference – the men of the moment are nowhere to be found. McIntyre, Byrne, Rogers, Tiernan and Brady have decided to sit back and let five suitably-styled women do the rocking out for them. See the results, and nab the track for free while you’re at it, at the band’s website.
