The announcement was made when vocalist and guitarist Kim Deal appeared on Marc Maron's podcast WTF With Marc Maron.
Maron revealed that the band were working on a new record, which is scheduled for release in 2018. This has since been confirmed by representatives of the band.
Deal then noted that former-Big Black guitarist and producer Steve Albini had "recorded two of the songs drum-wise".
This year, the Breeders released their first song in eight years back in October, titled 'Wait in the Car', which was also the first time that four of five members on 1993's Last Spash have worked together, those being Kim and Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim MacPherson.
The band were also in the Irish press recently after they attempted to perform at Vicar Street as ex-Hurricane Ophelia hit Ireland. Tweeting, "Undeterred by #ophelia we are crossing the Irish sea - Dublin show ahoy!". However, Aiken Promotions later confirmed that the show would not go ahead.
