It’s hard to believe that it’s 40 years since U2 first sprang to life as Feedback. But it is!
To celebrate this momentous milestone, this weekend sees a series of events on the band’s fabled North side of the city. Entitled U240 #WelcomeToTheNorthside, the series takes place in the Church Bar, on Jervis Street.
“After the great success of our U2 fan events in November,” explains Stephen Brown, whose brainchild the event is, “The Church Bar, Dublin will host the Official U2 Fans Touring Group #U240 Party. The event #U240 is to celebrate U2’s 40 years together.”
U2 BABY, a U2 tribute band, who were nominated for UK National Music Tribute Awards 2016, will fly into Ireland to play live on Friday 23 September (10:30pm) and Saturday 24 (11:30pm). The band promise to play a full set of U2 classics, spanning 40 years. Their set will also include some rare gems. A fully synchronized light show will also enhance the U2 vibe. Fans are promised “a show not to be missed.”
“Over the weekend we will also have #U240 Cocktail Specials and some U2 prizes to be won,” Stephen reveals. "A great Irish welcome is guaranteed to all who are travelling from across the globe to the North side of Dublin, to celebrate the greatest band in the world, U2.”
“With a musical history that dates back to April 1742, when George Frederic Handel practiced his music from Messiah here, before its first public performance on Fishamble Street, The Church is the best spot to give visiting fans a warm #WelcomeToTheNorthside of Dublin,” Stephen says.
The aforementioned prizes are already being given away, with limited edition t-shirts celebrating the anniversary on offer through the events' Facebook pages (links below). There’s no cover charge for any of the U2 events at The Church, but they'll be accepting bookings for groups of 10-plus.
