The Phantom was skulking around the back streets of Temple Bar the other night when he stumbled across a top secret shindig at the Project to celebrate the release of The Frames’ rather splendid debut album Another Love Song.
Gaining admittance was only marginally easier than breaking into a high security bank vault but once safely ensconced inside our favourite spectre was able to rub shoulders with the band’s friends and family, who proved to be delightful, if rowdy bunch. Free apples were handed out at the door to tie in with the LP’s cover artwork, and while this was a nice touch The Phantom was none too impressed when he was hit by an over ripe Granny Smith. A hack from a rival publication was to blame and who knows what it’s like to be caught by a ghoulie. The lads and lasses also brought the current season of indoor gigs at HMV Grafton Street branch to a rabble-rousing conclusion. Their appearance attracted a huge crowd, including a gaggle of foreign tourists who were obviously gobsmacked at the sight of Glen “Outspan” Hansard. Fame ’tis an awful cross to bear.
