Twenty-three-year-old multi-instrumentalist Karl Nesbitt’s EP debut does a fine job of showcasing his fluid flute and whistle style, his knack for understated accompaniment on bodhrán, bouzouki and synth, and his gift for composition.
Twenty-three-year-old multi-instrumentalist Karl Nesbitt’s EP debut does a fine job of showcasing his fluid flute and whistle style, his knack for understated accompaniment on bodhrán, bouzouki and synth, and his gift for composition. Where it falls down is on the production: this recording just doesn’t have the sparkle and brilliance that we’ve come to expect even of small-budget releases. Jazzy original tunes like ‘Dreaming On Ice’ and the gently-paced reel ‘The Sweet Surprise’ promise much, though, and I’m looking forward to hearing Nesbitt’s first full-length album.
