News from the domestic front
Now that the All Ireland has come and gone it is time to usher in Connacht’s next great hopes.
The team in question? A group of talented young men from the City Of The Tribes known to music lovers as Lucas. The highly-anticipated debut album, Pieced Together By Faded Memory is due for release at the end of October on the band’s Smiling Politely label. Recorded in New York under the guidance of Rob Fabroni, who was chief engineer on The Band’s Last Waltz, the album is a fine selection of all their live favourites and also features backing vocals from Lisa Hannigan…
…Also watch out for a new release from Galway singer-songwriter Ultan Conlon, simply titled Ultan this will be his debut EP…
...In other EP news, October sees Wicklow combo Raggedy Soul recording their debut EP with ex-Cactus World News man Frank Kearns. Not content with burning the midnight oil in the studio the band have also pencilled in a number of live dates over the next few weeks making this their busiest month of the year. Gig action includes the following; a visit to the Porterhouse, Bray on October 16, a support to The Almos Funk band in Whelan’s on October 23, an appearance at the second heat of The Global Battle of the Bands in the No.1, Tullamore on October 28 and finally a Halloween night blow-out in the Harbour Bar, Bray……whewww…
…Limerick’s Kader Fire have also been busy on the live circuit recently but they have also managed to squeeze in some recording time, the fruits of this will be a 3-track demo. The CD was recorded under the production hand of Martin Keary of the infamous 22. Tracks featured are: ‘Fat Cat’, ‘Scafolding’ and ‘Chemical Ring’. KF fans in Dublin can see the band live at the Ballroom of Romance in the Lower Deck on October 29…
…Also upcoming at the Lower Deck is Ciaran Smith aka Crayonsmith. The gig, on October 8, is part of a bunch of dates in support of You Get Down Here, Ciaran’s debut EP. Fans in Limerick can see Crayonsmith at Preachers on October 7, support on both nights comes from Windings.
Other news from the south, Cork this time, is that Ross O’ Donovan who recorded the Waiting Room album has set up Data Studios in Crosshaven. Email [email protected] for rates, bookings etc…
…New Irish record label Trust Me I’m A Thief has just launched its website. The first two releases are Jape’s The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me and The Redneck Manifesto’s I Am Brazil. It is the first Irish record label to offer its releases as digital downloads at a reduced price. www.trustmeimathief.com…
…To the midlands next…things are going well for Athlone’s Bunny (pictured) since the release of their debut Slick Corporate Music album. Following a recent gig singer James Mulally was heard to utter the words, “All my dreams came true”. What prompted this statement you might ask…a particularly fulfilling performance? A heart-warming response from an enraptured audience? Not at all…he got flashed. The band have gigs lined up in Cypress Avenue, Cork on October 14 and the Stables, Mullingar on October 16. James hopes that the lady in question will be attending future Bunny gigs…
