News from the domestic front by Róisín Dwyer
As the last days of Autumn slip away and we face the long winter evenings ahead what better way to pass the hours than listening to some great new releases due out over the next few weeks... The Chalets [pictured] will be releasing The Nightrock EP on October 22 on the Nasty Pop label. It will include ‘Night Rocker’, ‘Kiss Chasing’, ‘Love Punch’ and ‘David Boring’ and was recorded with Richard Grainey and Gareth Mannix. The band will be playing a full spread of dates from October 16 to coincide with the EP release. Check HotPress.com for tour dates...
...Another boy-girl combo close to our hearts are Life After Modelling, who will be releasing a new 4-track EP on October 29. December 21st will come out on Modelone Records with 3 different mixes of the title track along with the additional ‘Dull Suburbia’. The band have been very busy gigging lately, their live commitments will take them through to the end of October...
...Also active on the live circuit are Autamata who have announced an Irish tour in November which will include dates in Dublin (Temple Bar Music Centre Nov 4), Galway (Roisin Dubh, Nov 6) and Cork (Cypress Avenue, Nov 13), with support on all 3 nights from a hotly-tipped new electro pop band, Star Little Thing. Fans can expect to hear snippits from the forthcoming second album (provisionally titled Short Stories)...
...Fellow Dubliners Halite are also in gig mode... shows to date have reportedly been a great success, an enthusiastic People’s Republic resident said the Cork show was one of the gigs of the year...

...Brace yourselves for the second release from Southern label Rimbaid Records. Hot on the heels of The Killing Spree’s record comes Magnetize’s Biome album. The Dublin band’s debut is, according to sources “a layered tapestry of textures, ranging from drones and soundscapes to looped guitar sounds and radio-wave static”…sounds intruiging...
...Another debut, this time from the Ninepoint Records camp is Thread Pulls’ EP Summer Songs. The 5-track CD was recorded at Softsleeper in Dublin in June and is a limited release of 500 copies.
...Northern label Midhir have two exciting releases in the form of Symbel’s Wet English Forests EP and Waylander’s classic debut album Reawakening A Pride Once Lost coming at ya soon!
...A recent release of interest to Saw Doctor fans comes from former member Padraig Stevens. His critically acclaimed solo album Puddles and Rainbows features a slew of high-profile guest appearances including Anto Thistletwaite (ex Waterboys), Derek Murray (ex Stunning), Jim Higgins (ex Stunning) and more. Backing vocals are provided by Stevens’ niece Sarah Keating (ex of pop band Six)...
…On another western note... The Slatehouse Sessions at Busker Browne’s continue to go from strength to strength. Since starting earlier this year the intimate sessions have featured performers such as Albert Niland, Martin Finke, Charis, Jamie Lawson, Lucas, Brendan O’Shea, Sean Needham, Nick Kelly, Dr. Millar, Pete Courtney, Adrian Crowley and many more.
