News and gossip from the domestic front with Roisin Dwyer.
Festival season may be over but there’s still plenty going on around the domestic front to keep you busy. Following their roof-raising performance at the Hard Working Class Heroes festival, Dublin four-piece Delorentos
have announced the release of their debut EP. ‘Leave It On’ will be a four-track release available via Delorecords/Cottage on October 14. They will be celebrating the release with a headline show in Whelans, Dublin on October 15. Fans in Galway can catch them in action in the Roisin Dubh on October 13 with Wallmark and TKO.
Dubliners TKO have been gigging extensively lately. Dates on the horizon include a stopover on September 24 in Shannon Airport at the Shannon Peace Festival for the Rocking Out The Warplanes event with The Revs and The Chapters.
You can also see them supporting the pride of the south-east, FireGarden, at Eamonn Dorans on September 14.
FireGarden are about to launch their single 'If Only All The World Would Feel It' on September 9 on Cherish Records. The new offering is the follow-up to 2004’s debut EP 'Believe Tonight', which sold out its initial press of 500 copies...
Also playing Eamonn Doran’s that week, Sunday 18, are Dundalk’s Evil Harrisons, who have just released their new EP 'You’re My Ears And My Big Toes'.
Produced by Marc Carolan, this opus sees a departure in sound and style from that heard on their previous 'Seafood And Crab' EP.
Turning from an evil to a good note, there will be an Amnesty International fund-raising gig in Crawdaddy on September 10.
Lo-fi indie faves Redneck Manifesto will headline the event, along with Ferghal McKee (Whipping Boy) and Renko. Emerging talent on the bill comes in the form of Limerick group Vesta Varro and Mongoose.
Some news from Galway now – the next big name from the City Of The Tribes is Julie Feeney. A graduate of Trinity’s Masters in Music and Media Technologies, this professional choral singer and composer has just released her debut album, 13 Songs. Comparisons have already been drawn with Joni Mitchell – we are impressed! Catch Julie in The Sugar Club on September 19, in Tower Records on September 16 and in the Spiegeltent on October1.
Also worth watching out for is the new album from The Radiators. After supporting U2 on the opening night of their Dublin gigs in Croke Park they are playing Dolan’s Warehouse in Limerick on September 15 and September 16 in Crawdaddy.
Unfortunately, we will probably have to wait until the new year for the release so get yourselves along to the live shows in the meantime.
And finally watch out for the new release from Derry’s Fighting With Wire. After a very successful year which included a Kerrang! tour, extensive radio coverage and high-profile support slots to acts such as Biffy Clyro, Million Dead and yourcodenameis:milo, the single 'Machine Parts' is due for an October 3 release.
Fronted by Cahir O Doherty (Guitar/Vox) from Jetplane Landing, Craig McKean (Drums) and Rob Elliot (Bass),
Fighting With Wire are definitely ones to watch.
