Ok, the arctic temperatures have passed but now we have April showers to contend with…it’s well for some off to sunnier climes. Those TKO boys, for example, are off to Italy for five days this month for a slew of live dates. The Chiusura Campagna festival is the highlight of their visit, with a crowd of 8,000 expected!
The past few months have been fairly hectic, with the band managing to squeeze in a support slot to The Frames in Vicar Street, two sell-out shows in Whelan’s, and a stint in the studio recording their forthcoming single “Old Habits”, due for release in June. There will be some live action in the meantime, will keep you posted...
In other single news, the launch date for Reemo’s new AA has been set. ‘Who you are / Line’ will go on sale on Friday May 5, with a launch party on Saturday May 6 in Radio City. Other promotional dates and events surrounding the release will be announced soon…
Fellow Dubliners The Polemics have added an extra guitarist to their ever-changing ensemble. Declan Humphries, from Australian act The Gin Splints, has been called in to help the lads achieve that fuller sound which will aid them on their way to world domination. Cork band Kilterr made their Dublin debut recently in The Hub. On the night, the band mixed favourites with new material in a set that went down a storm with punters. After the show, singer Barry John Maher had a nasty incident with a passing taxi, and was lucky to escape serious injury. A shocked Barry was ably assisted by a bevvie of female fans in the vicinity. Get your hands on a copy of their EP ‘Reel me in For Kicks’ now.
Northern rockers The Answer were in Dublin for a performance on RTE’s The Café recently. The band are currently on the road in the UK, in advance of the release of the highly anticipated single “Into The Gutter” and some Irish live shows. They have confirmed a live date in The Forum, Waterford on April 15 in aid of the Cancer Research Campaign. Fans can tune in to 2FM’s Dan Hegarty for a live fix, when he plays the Live From The Eurosonic Festival on Wed 12 April from 12 midnight.
In other northern news, the April instalment of the Musicbest Records “Sounds Of Northern Ireland” (soNI) showcase will be held at Belfast’s Duke of York, on Saturday April 8. Headlining the show are Belfast’s Blind Friday, also on the bill are Newtownards three-piece Crave and Newry’s Cuckoo Rass.

Delorentos fans should brace themselves for the release of new single, “The Rules”, on 19 May. Over the next few weeks, the band will be playing some support shows around the country, including April 15 in Dublin with The Automatic, and support to Nada Surf on their Irish tour at the end of the month. Some headline shows are on the cards for May, will of course keep you posted…
Kildare trio Stone Ocean release their self-titled debut album on April 28 through American indie label, Ghost Train Records. There will be lots of live action in support of the release, will have further details in the next issue…
