News and gossip from the domestic front with Roisin Dwyer
Unlike the unpublished work of the same name by Stephen King, The Aftermath are enjoying many rave reviews from audiences far and wide. Following hot on the heels of the success of ‘One Is Fun’ comes a new double A-side single, ‘Hollywood Remake’/’Need’, on October 6. It’s sure to whet appetites for the as-yet-untitled long player recorded in France with Karl and Dave Odlum, and slated for release early next year. Other luminaries who lent their assistance were Placebo/Elastica/Pulp producer Phil Vinyl, Tindersticks cohort Terry Edwards, Waterboy Steve Wickham and Damien Rice cellist and solo artist Vyvienne Long.
In the meantime, The Aftermath re-traverse the highways and byways of Ireland, with a full tour throughout October and November. Check hotpress.com for dates.
Also hitting the gig circuit over the next few weeks in support of a single release is Cork’s Bill Coleman. ‘Offer Up The Hope’ is the first taster from his debut album, I’ll Tear My Own Walls Down, also due in early 2007. Fellow Corkonians Kilterr are still riding high on the success of their Reel Me In For Kicks EP. The upcoming show in An Cruiscin Lan on October 6 will be the band’s first hometown show since July and will give fans a taster of the new material they’ve been working so diligently on over the last few months! Dublin fans put October 13 in your diaries, that night the band play Fibber Magee’s with The Murder Of Crows.
Congratualtions to Limerick’s The Fewer, The Better whose track ‘Disco Spaceship’ has been nominated for an award in the International BitFilm Festival to be held in Hamburg on November 1. The 3-D computer-animated video has featured on Sile’s Seo and MTV.com and was directed by Canadian machinima guru Mike Fraser. See it for yourself at www.thefewerthebetter.com and get voting!
Following a stellar show in The Lower Deck recently The House Of Cosy Cushions are bringing their live act to Limerick. On October 7 they play The Boat Club with Windings (Steve from Giveamanakick) and Ben Oit (all the way from Belgium). Go along and see what all the fuss is about!
Drogheda’s Geriko are another band causing quite a stir. Their tour diary is looking quite full for the next few weeks, dates include a headline show in Crawdaddy on October 8, a visit to DCU on October 18, four dates supporting The Stone Roses Experience in Dundalk, Belfast and Dublin’s Ambassador and a support slot for The Frank And Walters album launch on October 27...phew!
And finally some news from the Electric Penguins camp. Following the recent release of the debut album Goodbye From The Electric Penguins, the band are gearing up for a live show in 4 Dame Lane, Dublin on October 12. The debut single ‘loonie’ has been getting lots of national airplay and a great response, word from the camp is the band are also in talks with UK management – watch this space!
