News and gossip from the domestic front.
UK-based former model/actress ODi (pictured) makes a welcome return to her home town when she supports Chaplin at the Hot Press/Beat FM show at the Wexford Arts Centre on August 17. Following that, ODi goes straight into the studio for a session with producer Karl Odlum (a distant relation, she’s not sure how) to record her next single due for release in November backed by a full Irish tour. She has just supported the wonderful Seth Lakeman at the Beverley folk festival in the UK...
Kildare rock outfit Miracle Bell have just released their debut EP Temperature Rise. Comprising Dave Prendergast on vocal duties, John Broe on lead guitar and a rhythm section of bassist Tom Barrett and drummer John Rigney, the band have been busy with some high-profile gigging. In addition to a raucous EP launch show in Crawdaddy recently, the boys also wowed the Oxegen crowd with their New Band Stage appearance...
Stefano Soffia (Director) Gareth Mannix (Delorentos) and Conor Brady (Jerry Fish) were some of the audio world glitterati that attended the recent 1st Audio Warehouse Pro Audio show held in the Loft Residential Studio in Clara, Co. Offaly. Exhibiting at the show were 24 representatives from all the premier Pro Audio Recording brands…
Dingle is the place to be in mid-August when the town plays host to Feile Beo. This year the festival runs for three days, August 16, 18 and 19. The weekend kicks off with a performance by The Blizzards, Fred and Exit The Street in the Hillgrove Hotel, and festivities continue on August 18 when the An Chonair Beer Garden hosts The Pale, Ham Sandwich, Itchy and the Optimist, Joepalino, Clive Barnes, Eoin, Pauline and Donnagh. The following day in the same venue you can catch The Flaws, The Cheerfuls, Cian Walsh, Tucan, Ben Reel Band, James O’Brien and The Beagleys.
Dublin pop-punks Nine IX Lives recently released their EP Like The Flames Attract The Moths on Verifier Lab Records at a packed show at the Voodoo Lounge. The band formed in 2005 and have been building a steady fanbase on the live circuit. Earlier this summer, they played support to Billy Talent at Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre.
Hot Press faves Super Extra Bonus Party take their full show back to the Voodoo Lounge on August 10 for one last summer bash in Dublin. Support on the night comes from Adebisi Shank, Prince Kong, Nouveau Noise and LPX. Adebisi Shank have just released their debut EP and have a slew of live performances under their belt, Prince Kong is gearing up for a forthcoming split release with fellow breakcore artist Aaron Spectre, and Nouveau Noise’s warm electronica and acoustics has drawn comparisons with Four Tet and Caribou, so this is definitely a show not to miss!
On the same night, Dublin soul/ska/funk act Hoarsebox hit Crawdaddy with The Gorgeous Colours. Having supported Republic Of Loose, The Walls and Boss Volenti to name but a few and played packed-out show in Whelans, The Mezz and Dorans, the band are gaining quite a live rep.
How unfortunate bi-location is not yet possible...
