News and gossip from the domestic front with Roisin Dwyer.
Love and Sex Issue eh? For the cynical, unromantic, unattached folk (I am presuming I am not alone?) I shall start this issue with SINGLE news!
How it turns my stomach to see all those starry-eyed couples at this time of year. Perhaps I will do a Michael Douglas in Falling Down and go on a murderous rampage. Why, Ham Sandwich have kindly composed the perfect soundtrack, their fourth single ‘Click...click...BOOM’ is released on February 19 through Route 109 Records. The band will hit the road with Butterfly Explosion on February 17 with a launch in Whelan’s, from there it’s west to the Roisin Dubh, Galway on February 22, the following night they visit the Stables in Mullingar and they wrap up the tour on February 24 in The Underground in Carlow.
Hot Press faves Superjimenez (pictured) are back with a new single ‘Beau’. Since the release of ‘Helicopters’ in April 2006 the band have played Oxegen, HWCH, Music Ireland and 2FM 2moro. Recording of the debut album is well under way with UK producer Adrian Bushby and a performance as part of Murphy’s Live is on the cards for February 22 in Dublin’s Sugar Club.
Fellow Dubliners Jemson Green release their debut single ‘Sober’ on February 9. The band have cultivated a strong following over the past few months, particularly in Germany. They are also in negotiations with film producers for the use of their music – will keep you posted on breaking news.
A quick reminder that the brilliant Channel One have just released their debut EP Permissions on Sound Foundation Recordings. Catch them live in Cork’s Cyprus Avenue on February 8, Waterford’s Electric Avenue on February 9 and Belfast’s Speakeasy on February 10.
In download news Star Belgrade fans can now get ‘Disconnect’ from the band’s MySpace sight. Limerick residents can catch them live with Vesta Varro in Dolan’s on February 15. The band are set to enter the studio this month to record their debut EP, with engineer Paul Thomas (U2, Phil Lynott) and producer Gizzy D (Analogue Mindfield) at the helm they are in safe hands…
Cork singer-songwriter Bill Coleman releases his new single ‘Say It Like You Mean It’ on February 9. The track is the second release from Coleman’s debut long-player I’ll Tear My Own Walls Down, which is released on February 23. Having appeared at the In The City showcase and twice at Hard Working Class Heroes Bill has built up a loyal following. He was also picked as a Rising Artist on Pet Sounds and has made two appearances on TG4’s Deis Rock show.
And finally Delorentos fans will be pleased to hear that the band have announced that their long-awaited debut long-player is to be titled In Love With Detail and is scheduled for an April release on the Cottage label. To keep you going until then the download single ‘The Basis Of Everything’ is available from February 23.
